Substance Abuse Prevention Workshops

Creating Lasting Family Connections is KYCC’s 10-week substance abuse prevention program for youth and parents interested in healthy development and personal/family growth. All of our CLFC programs have a proven success rate, with a reported delayed onset of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by youth, and curbed substance use and reduced violent behavior among youth and adult participants.

  • Parent Groups examine the underlying cultural and societal influences on drinking and alcoholism. We discuss healthy and unhealthy decision making and the hereditary, environmental, and lifestyle risk factors associated with alcoholism and chemical dependency. In particular, we work with parents to communicate openly with their children, set healthy expectations, and model healthy alcohol and drug use behaviors.
  • Youth Groups participants are encouraged to talk about their feelings, to build the critical self-esteem and self-awareness needed to combat the difficulties of peer pressure. The youth are also taught social and refusal skills, along with an age-appropriate education on drug and alcohol knowledge and beliefs.

Workshops are provided at community centers and schools throughout Koreatown, Pico-Union and Westlake. For more information on our Substance Abuse Prevention Education workshops, please contact Gennesis Lopez at glopez@kyccla.org or 213-365-7400 Ext.5119.

Responsible Retailer Campaign (RRC)

Responsible Retailer Campaign helps protect local businesses while keeping our community safe. KYCC offers free resources–including signage and technical assistance–to inform business owners and their employees about strategies to avoid illegal alcohol sales to minors, such as how to detect fake IDs.

We also provide additional resources for business owners through referrals both at KYCC and through our wide partner agency network. Our Community Economic Development unit  helps with small business technical assistance and financial issues, such as loans and tax preparation, while our Environmental Services provides free graffiti removal and other beautification services, such as plantings and pressure washing.
