On May 14, KYCC Prevention Educations’s Coalition (CoPALM) collaborated with Vista Charter Middle School to host a youth forum for National Prevention Week. This year National Prevention Week was held from May 12 through 18, and is a national public education platform to celebrate year-round prevention initiatives, promote substance use prevention, and encourage positive mental health.
In partnership with Korean American Family Services (KFAM), Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Institute for Public Strategies, Behavioral Health Services, Social Model Recovery Systems, and The Wall Las Memorias Project, the youth forum shared information about the harms associated with alcohol and cannabis use, to promote education amongst youth for National Prevention Week.
The event brought together 45 8th grade students, all of whom were able to participate in an information session regarding cannabinoids and current issues regarding cannabis products, in addition to a youth discussion session and interactive booths.
Together with our community partner organizations, CoPALM addresses substance use among youth, advocating for positive change to prevent substance use and foster supportive environments for our communities.
Funding for this event was provided by the Los Angeles Department of Public Health and Substance Abuse Prevention and Control.
