Frequently Asked Questions
  • I am a high school student, and I would like to join KSP!

We open our applications for each school year around August, when we begin recruiting for 12 high school students to join us from September to February.

Ideally, we want to recruit students who live or attend school in Koreatown, but if you have a particular interest in the community, you are still welcome to apply. Each student will receive a $500 stipend when they complete the program.

  • What can I expect to learn by joining KSP?

Students will learn about the history of Koreatown and its residents through oral history interviews. We also have a variety of arts workshops to teach you multimedia skills, such as photography, video, and podcasting.

  • I know someone from Koreatown who I think would be an amazing interview narrator. How can I connect them to your program?

We are interested in documenting the stories of all of our community’s residents and workers. We are particularly interested in hearing from older adults (55+) who are open to sharing their life experience. Many of our narrators are so happy that they can gift their children and grandchildren a recording or publication of their lives. All of our stories are archived in public institutions, such as the Library of Congress, USC, UCLA, and the Los Angeles Public Library.

Please email us at ksp@kyccla.org! We would love to hear from you.

  • Is your program only for English speakers?

Our program is currently in Spanish, Korean, and English. We are looking to add interviews in Bengali and Zapotec in 2024-2025.
