We train youth advocates who serve as ambassadors to their peers and take an active role in preventing substance use in our community.

Our Work & Advocacy

Breathe Free Initiative

Breathe Free Initiative is a tobacco control project that is working towards a smoke and tobacco-free policy campaign at college campuses and trade schools within Los Angeles that do not have comprehensive policies in place.

Los Angeles Transition Age Youth (TAY) Action Team (LA TAT)

LA TAT is a 12-month youth leadership advocacy program for 15-26 year olds to contribute to bullying prevention and mental health advocacy.

Youth Drug Abuse Prevention Program (YDAPP)

YDAPP is a 10-month youth leadership program that trains youth advocates to raise substance abuse awareness among their peers in Koreatown and neighboring communities.

The Coalition to Prevent Alcohol-Related Harms in Metro Los Angeles (CoPALM)

CoPALM is a coalition that addresses the impact of alcohol and other drugs on communities within Service Planning Area 4 and devises strategies to protect youth from alcohol and other drug abuse.

MacArthur Park Community Initiative (MPCI)

MPCI aims to reduce the use and exposure to tobacco and cannabis secondhand smoke among youth between ages 12 to 26 at MacArthur Park.

MacArthur (Park) Youth Protecting And Reviving Community (MYPARC)

Our youth community council MYPARC participates in a 8-week civic engagement and leadership curriculum that focuses on advocacy, community organizing, and public speaking to ultimately advance a stronger smoke-free park policy at MacArthur Park.

Koreatown Access to Recovery Services (KARS)

KARS is a youth and young adult leadership and empowerment council that aims to increase awareness and access to recovery services for youth who may be struggling with substance use disorders (SUD).

Koreatown, Pico-Union & Westlake Rooted Youth Project (KPWR)

KPWR is an internship program designed for local youth residents of Koreatown, Pico-Union and Westlake communities to create more urban greenspaces, learn about gardening, and enhance your advocacy, leadership, and research skills.

KYCC’s Prevention Education (PE) Unit is dedicated to raising awareness about substance use prevention through education.

We welcome any training requests by schools or organizations to educate individuals on specific substance use issues or complete a unique training dedicated to preventing adolescent substance abuse.

Botvin Life Skills Training (LST) for Middle and High School Students & Adults

Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) is an evidence-based substance abuse and violence prevention curriculum that addresses alcohol, marijuana, and prescription drug use. It is uniquely designed to prevent adolescent substance abuse through the use of self-management skills, social skills, drug awareness, and resistance skills. The sessions are offered to parents, middle school students, and high school students.

Substance-Topic Presentations

Substance-topic presentations and training can be tailored to the audience (e.g. youth, parents, school administrators, etc.) Topics may include: fentanyl/opioids/stimulants, tobacco, methamphetamine, alcohol, cannabis, and naloxone.

  • Who is eligible to participate in these programs?

    Eligibility requirements vary by program. Most programs are for youth, and the age requirements can range between 15-26. Some programs are only meant for adults. Please visit our Volunteer Page to see whether or not you are eligible for the program you are interested in joining.

  • What is the application process like?

    Applications vary for each program. Some require an interview. Staff will contact the applicant and notify them of application status. Please provide between 1-2 weeks for a response.

  • Where are your programs located?

    Most of our programs are offered at our KYCC La Fayette Office, however some programs may sometimes require program participants to be outdoors or in other spaces like at a park.
