Environmental Services and Volunteers Conduct Median Revitalization Project
On October 5, KYCC’s Environmental Services team hosted a community event focused on enhancing a median situated at the intersection of Union Ave and Venice Blvd. During this event, 45 volunteers came together to plant more than 60 native California and drought-resistant plants and shrubs.
The project introduced California native and drought-resistant plants and shrubs to the area, with the goal of mitigating the urban heat island effect of the local climate, while also enhancing green spaces in our community.
This was a special community planting event aimed at enhancing the landscape, while also fostering a sense of community and environmental stewardship.
Over the next six months, our landscaping team will be responsible for maintenance, including debris and weed removal, regular watering, and monitoring plant health.
KYCC Environmental Services is committed to fostering inspired community action, believing that this is the most effective approach to achieving meaningful and sustainable environmental change. Together, we are working towards building safe, healthy, and beautiful neighborhoods.
Special thank you to our partners Pico Union Neighborhood Council, Windmill Links Community Environmental Fund, Pico Union Housing Corporation, CD1 Council member Eunisses Hernandez for making this event a success.
This project was funded by Windmill Links Community Environmental Fund & Aurora Corona.
