On Saturday, September 21, KYCC’s Wilshire FamilySource Center (FSC) celebrated its first anniversary with an Open House event, to enhance awareness about our services and provide education for the community members we serve.

The Open House was designed to familiarize attendees with our FSC team, offer a tour of the facility, highlight the services available, and to collect feedback from participants to improve FSC’s effectiveness as a resource for families. A total of 69 community members of various ages, along with partners from Para Los Niños and LA Foodscape, were present at the event.

The KYCC Wilshire FSC staff facilitated three informative workshops covering topics like resources and opportunities for youth, achieving financial stability, and education on housing stability. This initiative aligns with the mission of multiple KYCC services, with our FSC serving as a bridge to link individuals with the programs that KYCC provides.

In addition, a resource fair took place to offer more information about the assistance programs accessible to the community, along with arts and crafts activities for children. The event wrapped up with a vibrant Oaxacan dance performance by the Folklorico group, Huaxyacac, followed by lunch, and a raffle.

“I live in the San Fernando Valley and have been enrolled at KYCC’s FamilySource Center for a year. My family loves coming to this center because they make us feel welcome and especially because of all the help that my daughters and we have received as parents. The services and programs have greatly benefited us in knowing how to manage our finances. We volunteer at the center and also receive educational workshops that help us become better parents. We loved this event that they organized,” notes Arnoldo Perez and Ana Alberto, who are clients of KYCC’s FSC.
Thanks to funding from the City of Los Angeles’ Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD), the FamilySource Center functions as one of 19 FamilySource Centers throughout Los Angeles. Our FSC services aim to assist families in achieving two key outcomes—improving academic performance and boosting family income and resources.
