On Sunday, May 26, KYCC’s Wilshire FamilySource Center hosted a Safety Pedestrian and Cyclist Presentation, in collaboration with Walk ‘n Rollers. Walk ‘n Rollers was founded to encourage children to be more active, primarily by walking and biking to school more often and safely.

The event brought families with children and teenagers together for a morning of family time and to learn about the increasing dangers on public streets, such as pedestrian and cyclist accidents, which are on the rise in our community.

This is the first community awareness and education event hosted by KYCC’s Wilshire FamilySource Center to the community it serves. Our FamilySource Center offers a wide range of integrated social, educational, employment, and family support services aimed at helping low-income families enhance self-sufficiency by focusing on asset building, housing stability, and boosting academic achievements for both youth and adults.

Thanks to the generosity of Walk ‘n Rollers and Jim Shanman, Executive Director of Walk ‘n Rollers, who attended the event to assemble and distribute 12 bikes which were raffled to our FamilySource Center client children. This event was educational and created unforgettable memories for the recipients and their families.

A special thank you to Deisy Gutierrez, Community Outreach coordinator for leading an engaging presentation on safety, and Baby2Baby for providing prizes for all attendees. This event would not have been possible without the support of the City of Los Angeles Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD) and the Office of Traffic Safety Program (OTS)
